My art is normally my escape from the reality of politics and other hard truths. Charlottesville was a surprise to me, watching white supremacists and Nazis matching side by side but it continued to get worse. On January 6, 2021 there was no escape from the American Insurrection that was happening before me. I could not look away. I was in total disbelief. The assault on our democratic form of government by an unruly mob egged on by a wannabe dictator simply left me dumbfounded. Then I became angry and used my art to express how I felt. In the medium of alcohol ink I painted the following work, “Insurrection”. This is a bullet through the heart of our Republic.
There is truth. There are lies. There is good and there is evil. I have many friends who are terrified that we will become an authoritarian country patterned after the country of Hungary where saying anything against the government can throw them in jail. Where the only religion that can be practiced is the state approved religion. A country where you can be jailed for loving someone who doesn’t meet the government’s criteria. A country where even the type of art that is allowed must be dictated by certain standards. A country where anyone who is not white-christian is a second-hand citizen, even if they be considered a citizen at all...and more.
There will be more activist art from me this year.
Let’s defeat these right-wing extremist who are trying to hold the people of our good country hostage and destroy the rule of law.
Please vote in the primaries. Please vote in November and help keep our Constitution and Freedom.
Say no to authoritarianism.
Perfect depiction. Artists and musicians should be involved in defeating this American T cancer.
Couldn’t agree more, my very talented friend.
